Wen-Hua Du
Senior Instructor
First-year Chinese, Summer 2007
"It is my pleasure to teach First-Year Chinese at Beloit summer Chinese school. I really enjoyed the opportunity to work with other dedicated teachers from other institutions in summer. Teaching in Beloit summer school is definitely a different experience from teaching other similar settings of summer programs. As a teaching faculty, I particularly appreciate the unique atmosphere offered in Beloit. Since this is a smaller and nice program, interactions between teachers and students become more frequent. All the teachers in the program are very devoted and compassionate. They are sensitive to students’ immediate needs, and I believe this is something you can hardly find in other bigger language programs.
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing my First Year Chinese students come to the program without understanding a word in Chinese, yet nine weeks later, they leave the program with confidence and continuously devote themselves to learn the language and culture. I believe the curriculum design of the Chinese program plays a significant role in it. Students in Beloit summer Chinese program not only immerse themselves in the target language speaking environment, with the emphasis of culture acquisition in its curriculum, this course also introduces abundant cultural information and activities to enrich students’ intensive language studying experience." |
